Argyll House accommodation & Canfield Studio Leura

Argyll Guest HouseAddress: 11a Craigend Street
Phone: 02 4784 1555

Argyll House, a large traditional California Bungalow, sits back from the street amidst a colourful garden. Large windows across the sitting and morning rooms showcase the minute changes of each season and provide natural light effortlessly throughout the day. Here, breakfasts are a specialty in the morning room overlooking the gardens – guests will find a selection of teas that astounds the imagination.

Suites with ensuite bathrooms are charmingly decorated and are popular with couples who wish for a bit of privacy. Traditional rooms (shared bathrooms) in a private wing are perfect for budget-minded singles, couples or small groups who want a longer stay in Leura. Come winter, a log fire in the lounge room is always just the thing for cozying up with a book, a newspaper and a cup of tea.

In the back garden, the Argyll Studio is home to local artist, Jane Canfield. Open upon request, the Japanese-style studio houses Jane’s unique paintings of the Blue Mountains villages and other city scenes. The studio affords one of those rare opportunities to see the work and creative space of a prize-winning artist.

Argyll House & Studio is a short two minute walk to The Mall.

The Greens of Leura Leura

The Greens of LeuraAddress: 24-26 Grose Street
Phone: 02 4784 3241

From the street, The Greens of Leura B&B appears to be a small heritage-style cottage, yet appearances are definitely deceiving. The large house has a surprising architectural history – we won’t give away the details before you arrive. We can say that The Greens offers elegant and graceful country charm throughout.

Five spacious guest rooms, each with new ensuite, have been recently renovated and newly furnished – high ceilings with handsome ornamental moulding, beautiful doors and plush oriental rugs give this house a feeling from a bygone era. Each room is named after a prominent English author – a giveaway that the hosts are lovers of literature.

An open fire, comfortable furniture in the lounge, a comprehensive library and even a billiards room all add to a holiday mood. The breakfast menu is extensive and wonderfully European – all freshly cooked and beautifully served in the breakfast room overlooking the gardens.

The Greens offers a wonderful setting for a group – family or friends – and its perfect location is only steps away from Leura Mall.

Megalong Manor Leura

Megalong ManorAddress: 151-153 Megalong St
Phone: 02 4784 1461

The historic bungalow, once home to the Leura Literary Institute in 1915, is today a charming B&B with a rich old-world atmosphere. Three self-contained suites – each with its own private entrance – offer romantic charm and a serene ambience. The guest book confirms it is the choice of the many honeymooners who find their way to Leura.

Each suite has a sitting and dining area with a kitchenette for light cooking, yet each is distinctively different. For this reason, some returning customers opt to rotate among the suites. For those chilly mountain nights, central heating and gas log fires keep you cosy and warm.

Located at the very edge of Leura shops and eateries (Leura Mall), Megalong Manor is set in stunning gardens, awash with brilliant colours and delicate scents. When we arrived on a recent summer day, our charming host was in gardening clothes and diligently at work with hedge clippers – “... a persistent and consistent task,” he noted. Established gardens and an iconic bungalow – we are reminded of the long history of this favourite Leura B&B.

Self Contained Accommodation in Leura

Leisure Inn Spires Leura

Leisure Inn SpiresAddress: 100 Leura Mall
Phone: 02 4784 4999

Set at the top of the Mall and just steps from the Leura train station, Leisure Inn Spires is a beautiful leafy campus of modern studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. The bedrooms are spacious and the kitchens in the one and two-bedroom apartments are fully equipped. A wonderful feature especially for Blue Mountains chilly evenings are the ornamental gas fireplaces – perfect for good conversation and a glass of wine. Our favourite is the loft apartment with a “Romeo” balcony.

The fully self-contained apartments are very reasonably priced – perfect for families – and are just a short stroll from Leura shops and restaurants. Great bushwalks and lookouts along the Prince Henry Cliff Walk are no more than a 20-minute walk from the Spires.

Note: For your convenience and making bushwalks in Leura, Scenic World and Echo Point in Katoomba easily accessible, both tourist bus companies – Blue Mountains Explorer Bus and Trolley Shoppe Tours – pick up and drop off passengers at Leura Gateway across the street from Leisure Inn Spires throughout the day.

Underground secured parking is definitely an added bonus of this Leura accommodation.

Leura Plums Leura

Leura PlumsAddress: 3 Davies Street
Phone: 02 4784 3007

Simple, clean lines, timber floors, and high ceilings – yet with all the modern conveniences of today – come to mind first when describing petite Leura Plums. But there is more: big overstuffed lounges, a large modern eat-in kitchen and a chef’s dream of a stove for preparing some new mouth-watering recipe.

A 1930s mountain cottage on the north side of Leura, Plums is tucked away in a quiet spacious garden of fruit trees, hydrangeas and sweetly scented lavender. For toddlers and young kids, the large backyard holds fantasies of running and jumping and rolling around in the grass. For book lovers, a bench in the sunny side-yard calls. Chilly weather brings out the electric blankets and logs burning in the stove, and when the sound of rain hits the roof you can nestle in with a cup of tea, a book, a favorite DVD and the slow combustion fire – this is a holiday!

Only a 10-minute walk from The Mall, Leura Plums is a comfortable, charming and unpretentious Blue Mountains accommodation – it has been generously loved and cared for by its owners and its guests. Note: The Guestbook is a smashing testimony.
