"We're Getting Married in the Morning" - Leura Wedding
Destination weddings are in, and the Blue Mountains, with its dramatic scenery, offer a picture-perfect wedding backdrop with lots of visual appeal. Combine the drama with wonderful wedding venues and excellent services, and it is easy to understand why the area has become a special place for couples to marry or unite in a wedding commitment ceremony.
The small village environment brings out the best in people, and the personal and relaxed atmosphere helps everyone relax and enjoy all the festivities. There is plenty for guests to do when they come from out of town, and people are always happy to spend a few days in Leura.
Wedding guests can stay at the different B&Bs or larger resorts and be in close proximity to each other. Many of the facilities, churches, reception sites and restaurants are only a short distance apart, so everything is kept simple and safe.
Wedding ceremonies in Leura seem to take place in every season, even in an unpredictable winter. Georgia Shepherd, proprietor of Solitary Restaurant, laughingly recounts stories of cold July weddings. Tentative wedding guests peer from inside the restaurant at the wedding party out in the garden at Solitary, overlooking the escarpment. "On that day, the bride and groom are immune to weather. The bridesmaids and groomsmen shiver and shake, yet the bride and groom seem not to notice. And the wedding guests? They don't venture beyond those doors."
Of course, there is much to be done to make it a memorable wedding day. You need trusted resources. So we've put together a list of people who specialise in weddings. It's a special day, and they can ensure the event is as spectacular as the scenery.

Let's talk about dining on the edge of the Blue Mountains escarpment. This terrific spot for a break from the bush has a history stretching back to 1913, when it was known as the Leura Falls Kiosk. The building is heritage listed, and proprietors Georgia Shepherd and John Cross have created an historical museum in the current kiosk. Take a moment to look at the vintage photos, old letters and foodie reviews from years past.
Kiosk favourites among the hungry bushwalkers coming up off the track are a vegetarian plate of frittata, dips, cheese and olives, or a charcuterie plate which includes terrine and cured meats served with an assortment of breads.
More often, those of us more sedentary types will drive over for a morning coffee and delicate pastries, merely to gaze out at the spectacular view of the escarpment and find ourselves lingering over lunch in the beautiful garden with a sweeping view of Jamison Valley. Recently, however, we veered from our usual habits and chose a superb chicken breast served with braised spinach and other greens. Certain we could not consume all of it, only etiquette and good manners prevented licking the plate.
Evening dining at Solitary Restaurant is an experience. Listed for multiple awards in the Sydney Morning Herald, Solitary Restaurant is classy and Australian-modern in the best sense of the word. For example, a popular main of roast lamb rump with pesto pencil leeks and sweet potato is among the dining enticements. Desserts are pure pleasure - indulge in the semolina pear and coconut trifle. Service is impeccable, and reservations are recommended Wednesday to Sunday for dinner and weekends for lunch. (Credit cards)
