Leura Blue Mountains Accommodation
Leura Village Fair - 2nd weekend in October

Blue Mountains Accommodation

The best way to experience all of Leura is to come for a night or two. You can choose from one of the many excellent accommodation options. Many visitors travel by rail and hire a car for their stay.

When everyone else has gone home for the day, you'll feel the deep quiet of this Blue Mountains village emerge. As daylight seeps into a star-filled evening, Leura belongs to you.

When you wake, you'll experience Leura before the day's rush begins. Native parrots cry out noisily as they fly overhead, a solitary dog barks or you may catch a soft conversation of early morning walkers passing by.

Daybreak, weather in Leura can change minute by minute, for Nature controls in the Blue Mountains, and you quickly learn to adapt to her demands. But you can count on weather being glorious, though oft times extreme.

A few sleepy-eyed locals make their way to cafés on The Mall around 7am for that first cup of coffee or tea. Otherwise, all is quiet and this is the Leura that day-trippers miss.

Megalong Manor Leura

Phone: 02 4784 3241

The historic bungalow, once home to the Leura Literary Institute in 1915, is today a charming B&B with a rich old-world atmosphere. Three self-contained suites – each with its own private entrance – offer romantic charm and a serene ambience. The guest book confirms it is the choice of the many honeymooners who find their way to Leura.

Each suite has a sitting and dining area with a kitchenette for light cooking, yet each is distinctively different. For this reason, some returning customers opt to rotate among the suites. For those chilly mountain nights, central heating and gas log fires keep you cosy and warm.

Located at the very edge of Leura shops and eateries (Leura Mall), Megalong Manor is set in stunning gardens, awash with brilliant colours and delicate scents.

When we arrived on a recent summer day, our charming host was in gardening clothes and diligently at work with hedge clippers – “... a persistent and consistent task,” he noted. Established gardens and an iconic bungalow – we are reminded of the long history of this favourite Leura B&B.

Guesthouse Accommodation in Leura

Leura House

Address: 7 Britain Street
Phone: 02 4784 2035

Now a guesthouse of 12 bedrooms and suites, Leura House has an epic history with Leura. Set in five acres of English-style gardens, the popular and fashionable accommodation was built before the turn of the century. Toward the end of 1950, an order of the Catholic Church purchased it as a school for girls planning to enter the novitiate. Today under new ownership, the guesthouse, with its log fire lounge and original dining room, welcomes guests for Leura accommodation once again.

Set at the top of the Mall and just steps from the Leura train station, Leisure Inn Spires is a beautiful leafy campus of modern studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. The bedrooms are spacious and the kitchens in the one and two-bedroom apartments are fully equipped. Our favourite is the loft apartment with a "Romeo" balcony.

The fully self-contained apartments are very reasonably priced - perfect for families - and are just a short stroll from Leura shops and restaurants. Great bushwalks and lookouts along the Prince Henry Cliff Walk are no more than a 20-minute walk from the Spires.

Note: For your convenience and making bushwalks in Leura, Scenic World and Echo Point in Katoomba easily accessible, two tourist bus companies - Blue Mountains Explorer Bus and Trolley Shoppe Tours - pick up and drop off passengers at nearby Railway Pde throughout the day.

Underground secured parking is definitely an added bonus of this Leura accommodation.

Leura Plums Leura

Address: 3 Davies Street
Phone: 02 4784 3007

Simple, clean lines, timber floors, and high ceilings – yet with all the modern conveniences of today – come to mind first when describing petite Leura Plums. But there is more: big overstuffed lounges, a large modern eat-in kitchen and a chef’s dream of a stove for preparing some new mouth-watering recipe.

A 1930s mountain cottage on the north side of Leura, Plums is tucked away in a quiet spacious garden of fruit trees, hydrangeas and sweetly scented lavender. For toddlers and young kids, the large backyard holds fantasies of running and jumping and rolling around in the grass. For book lovers, a bench in the sunny side-yard calls. Chilly weather brings out the electric blankets and logs burning in the stove, and when the sound of rain hits the roof you can nestle in with a cup of tea, a book, a favorite DVD and the slow combustion fire – this is a holiday!

Only a 10-minute walk from The Mall, Leura Plums is a comfortable, charming and unpretentious Blue Mountains accommodation – it has been generously loved and cared for by its owners and its guests. Note: The Guestbook is a smashing testimony.
