Just a brief note indirectly about Leura. I’ve recently been asked to participate on a committee whose goal is to bring back commercial vitality to a NSW country town. The town has lots of history and natural scenic beauty. In a discussion yesterday (16/06/09) the basic plan was revealed — really a template that probably any town could use. Find a couple of anchor businesses, bring in a few smaller business, open up on the same date and voila — they will come. The sought after businesses were chain stores that generally look for heavy foot traffic. “This is the way it works”, I was told. And, I responded, “well, tell that to Leura shop owners, they will throw you off the escarpement if you tried to bring in chain stores”! When you have beauty and history, why not capitalize on that? Make it special and for those of you who have visited and played in Leura, you will get my drift!
